Maruti Vitara Brezza Facelift is the sub-compact SUV segment leader for June 2020 in India.

Maruti Vitara Brezza is one of the most successful models in recent years. Since it’s launch in 2016, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has emerged as the top-selling sub-compact SUV in the Indian market. The success is remarkable as it only came with a diesel engine initially. The dominance was challenged by the arrival of Hyundai Venue and Tata Nexon. By the end of 2019, Hyundai Venue was the top-selling subcompact SUV model in India. Maruti Suzuki decided to eliminate the diesel options from April 2020 as the new BS6 norms came into effect. With no petrol engine also, Brezza fell out of favour with the Indian consumers. With the increase in competition in the compact SUV segment, Maruti Suzuki launched Vitara Brezza facelift with a petrol engine. It is now the best selling subcompact SUV in the month of June 2020.

The Maruti Vitara Brezza BS6 model sold over 4,500 units in the month of June 2020 in comparison to Hyundai Venue which sold 4,219 units. Indian automaker sold 10,627 units of Vitara Brezza from March till June while receiving a good 26,000 bookings till June 25. Hyundai Venue was delivered to 11,498 homes between March and June, which is 871 more units than Brezza. However, we must note that Breeza was launched on 21 March with deliveries beginning shortly. The COVID-19 also forced a decline in numbers as India was under lockdown for several days.

The interesting battle lies ahead as Maruti Vitara Brezza competes with Hyundai Venue in the sub-compact SUV segment. One disadvantage with Vitara Brezza is that it misses a diesel engine option as the company discontinued diesel engines in all of its BS6 models. Diesel prices are almost the same as Petrol so it all boils down to performances now.

The 2020 Vitara Brezza facelift comes with a K15B 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine with the SmartHybrid technology. The SmartHybrid technology is offered only with the automatic variants of the SUV. The 2020 Hyundai Venue is offered in three engine options - 1.0L turbo petrol, 1.2L petrol and 1.5 L diesel.
