BNVSAP Update for Celerio and Celerio X Brings New Safety Features

As government enforces new safety norms, Maruti Suzuki launches updated models of Celerio, CelerioX.

BNVSAP norms have kicked in and all the vehicles that had not been updated so far have are now in the process of being updated. India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Limited too is updating their Celerio and Celerio X in the market. The update brings new standard safety features to Celerio and the Celerio X. As per the new update the Celerio and Celerio X cars in the market will now have driver and passenger airbags, seat belt for the driver and front passenger, ABS, rear parking sensors, central locking and speed alert system as standard fittings across all trims. With the new update, Celerio now costs Rs. 4.31 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi and Celerio X costs Rs. 4.81 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi.

Maruti Celerio locks horns with Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago in the Indian market. Talking about the Celerio X, it is a more rough and tough version of India’s first AMT equipped hatchback. There are a few styling changes on the Celerio X that include body cladding in black color among others. Celerio and Celerio X come equipped with a 1L 3-cylinder petrol engine that is rated to deliver 67 Bhp and 90 Nm. The engine is known to be very refined and is mated to a 5-speed manual or AMT automatic gearbox as per the choice of the customer. Earlier, Maruti also offered a double cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with the Celerio, but later discontinued it due to the customers ignoring the car over lower refinement of the diesel engine.

So that the customers do not miss the cost-effective diesel option on the Celerio models, Maruti also offers the car in CNG-Petrol format. Seeing the general trend of the motor industry, the new emission rules will make the diesel engines very expensive. Hence, the industry is expected to shift toward dual fuel options such as CNG and LPG alternatives, at least for the smaller engines. Therefore, it will be no surprise to see the smaller diesel engines vanishing from the market altogether. As the deadline for Bharat Stage 6 emission norms approaches, one will see the makers shift from smaller diesel engines to cleaner and better petrol engines and dual fuel options with these petrol engines.

The growing network of LPG and CNG network in the country will also equip the makers with the choice of offering more and more cars with the dual fuel option in the Indian market. The dual fuel option is very significant for India because before making the full switch to electric cars, the dual fuel options in the Indian market will act as an important bridge.
