Toyota Motor Corporation and Suzuki Motor Corporation in 2018 agreed to sell each other’s cars in the Indian market. Till now, Toyota has launched the Urban Cruiser and Glanza based on Suzuki cars in the market. The partnership has helped Toyota to enter new segments and increase its market share in the domestic market. Now, both the automobile manufacturers plan to bring new vehicles ranging from MPV to SUV to crossovers in the coming days. As per the new reports streaming in, they are working on a new crossover dubbed D22. The most interesting information is that the new crossover will be positioned above the Vitara Brezza in the country.
The upcoming crossover will lie between Vitara Brezza and Kia Seltos. Not much is known about the new crossover but expect an AWD option to separate it from the rivals. Its production will begin at Toyota’s manufacturing plant in Karnataka. The components will be sourced from Maruti Suzuki to lower the costs. Apart from D22, Maruti Suzuki will be launching a new compact crossover in the Indian market. Codenamed YTB, the crossover is said to based on the Baleno hatchback. It will be positioned below the Vitara Brezza and rival the likes of Nissan Magnite, Tata Nexon and Renault Kiger in pricing. Expect the compact crossover to retail via NEXA premium dealerships across the country.Â
The homegrown manufacturer is also bringing in the New-Gen Vitara Brezza by early 2022. It will be a major upgrade over the current model with new design, updated features and new engine options. Also, Maruti Suzuki is expected to introduce 5-door Jimny to the Indian market after much wait. About 50 CKD units of the Jimny were imported from Japan to be locally assembled here. 5-door Jimny will be sold in the Indian market through NEXA dealerships. If the reception from the Indian buyers is in line with the manufacturer’s goals, we could see local manufacturing of Jimny in India. It will rival Mahindra Thar and upcoming Force Gurkha in its segment.
