The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift is going to be the first hatchback in its segment to be offered with a hybrid powertrain.

Maruti Suzuki unveiled the new Swift hatchback at the 2023 Japan Auto Show with a couple of changes. The company is likely to begin its new year with the new-gen Swift in the country. The automaker earlier revealed several details about the features of the hatchback, and now it has shared specifications regarding the engine that will be equipped in the car. It is going to be the first hatchback in its segment to be provided with a hybrid powertrain.

The 2024 Suzuki Swift will get two broad trims: the first with a naturally aspirated 3-cylinder engine and the second one paired with a 12V mild hybrid powertrain. The current Swift model comes equipped with a 1.2-litre engine, but now the unit will be replaced by a new 1.2-litre petrol engine. Maruti Suzuki offers the outgoing generation Swift with a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine in the Indian market.

The new Swift hatchback will provide around 80 bhp of horsepower and 108 Nm of peak torque. The new unit is less powerful than the current Swift, as it offers 88 bhp of horsepower and 113 Nm of peak torque. However, the upcoming Swift will be more affordable, and it will have enhanced fuel efficiency. The unit will provide a mileage of 23.4 kmpl, whereas the hybrid variant will offer around 24.5 km. The new 1.2-litre petrol unit in the Hatchback will come paired with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed CVT transmission unit. The company is likely to halt the AMT gearbox available in the outgoing generation model. The 5-speed CVT unit will be paired with the mild hybrid variant of the hatchback.

The upcoming Swift will get several interior and exterior updates. The hatchback will now come with a new pair of headlamps and LED tail lamps. Inside the cabin, it will be based on the Baleno with features like a brand-new instrument cluster and infotainment system. After its official launch in the market, the new Swift will give tough competition to the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and the Tata Tiago. It is currently available at a starting price of INR 5.99 lakh to INR 9.03 lakh (ex-showroom). The upcoming new-gen hatchback is likely to be priced higher than the current model.
