Maruti Suzuki Jimny CKD kits have already arrived here while awaiting custom clearance.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny made its official debut in the Indian market at the 2020 Auto Expo in a 3-door avatar. Ever since, it has been creating a lot of buzz and the company has zeroed down on a 5-door version of the rugged off-roader for India. Recently, our good friends at Team-BHP have claimed that Maruti Suzuki has imported several CKD kits of Jimny in the country. The report further states that these kits have already arrived here and are awaiting clearance from the custom department of Indian government.

Maruti Suzuki has planned to roll out approx 4000-5000 units of Jimny from its Gujarat facility for export to various global markets. The 5-door version is being readied for a premiere soon and if all goes well, it might be launched during the festive season of Diwali in October 2020 in the country. It will be the fifth company vehicle to be launched from the NEXA chain of premium dealerships. However, the company might also introduce the 3-door version alongside the regular 5-door version in limited numbers as the proposal is still under consideration. Several reports have indicated that the company might bring back the 'Gypsy' nameplate and christen the 5-door Jimny as 'Gypsy' in the Indian market.

Mechanically, the Suzuki Jimny could be powered by the BS6 compliant 1.5L K15 petrol engine which develops top power of 100bhp and peak torque of 130Nm. The engine will be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard while a 4-speed auto unit could be offered as an option. The international-spec Jimny features the All-Grip 4x4 system and it remains to be seen if the India-spec 5-door Jimny would be equipped with it. As for features, it will come loaded with several premium features such as projector headlamps with LED DRLs, 15-inch alloy wheels, multi-function steering wheel and SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system. Maruti Jimny price is likely to be onwards Rs 12 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
