Vitara Brezza

Toyota Urban Cruiser, the Vitara Brezza with Toyota badging, is inching closer to its much anticipated launch in the Indian market. Now, the board of directors at Maruti Suzuki have approved the supply of the SUV to Toyota. Toyota Urban Cruiser will get a handful of cosmetic updates at the outside while the cabin will be retained from the current SUV. It will take on the likes of Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon and Maruti Vitara Brezza in the Indian market, while being the second product to roll out under Suzuki-Toyota partnership.

In March 2019, both the Japanese companies had reached to an agreement for the cross-supply of vehicles. Both Toyota and Suzuki announced that Vitara Brezza would be developed at TKM's production facility in Karnataka from 2022. Now, Maruti's board has also approved the same which makes the path for future very clear. It has been learnt that the Urban Cruiser will have a few updates to the front fascia in the form of new radiator grille and bumper. However, various other elements such as lights, wheels and body metal panels will be carried over from the Vitara Brezza. The cabin would be identical too with similar features except for the Toyota badging and lighter color upholstery.

Under the hood, Toyota Urban Cruiser will feature the BS6 compliant naturally aspirated 1.5L 4-cylinder K15B petrol engine with mild-hybrid system. The engine develops top power of 105bhp at 4400rpm and peak torque of 138Nm at 6000rpm while linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. A 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission is also likely to be offered as optional. The mild-hybrid system is exclusive to the automatic variants of Maruti Vitara Brezza as it is not available with the manual variants. So, Toyota Urban Cruiser will debut the mild-hybrid system with manual gearbox which will help it in achieving a greater mileage while at the same time keeping the costs in check.
