Safety is paramount in today’s world, be it sitting at home to avoid COVID-19 or driving a car. Today’s consumers are aware more than ever and don’t settle for anything less. Indian automobile companies are increasingly developing and building cars for the utmost safe driving experience. Global New Car Safety Assessment Program's (Global NCAP) undertook an extensive survey of various Indian cars to find out the safest ones. The Safer Cars For India' campaign started back in 2014 offers us an insight into the various Indian automobile safety features.
As per the latest data recieved from the Global NCAP Survey, 3 Made-In-India cars got 5-Star Safety Rating and seven-car models were rated 4-star. Under the new Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSAP), Indian made cars should be equipped with airbags, ABS, and seat belt reminders as standard offerings. The safety features are particularly important in the light of a sobering fact that India witnesses the most number of road deaths. In 2014, not one made-in-India model was rated safe to withstand the impact of a mild or a severe collision at speeds of 64 kmph or above.
According to the latest data released by NCAP on Twitter, Mahindra XUV 300 is the safest made-in-India car currently in production. Mahindra XUV 300 was rated 5-Star in Adult Occupants Safety and 4-Star for Child Safety. Following it closely are the two Tata Models - Altroz and Nexon. Both the models scored 5 Stars in Safety Rating for Adult Occupants and 3 Stars for Child Safety. The other Tata models high on Safety Rating include the names of Tiago and Tigor receiving 4 Star in Adult Occupants Safety and 3-Star in the Child Occupant Safety Rating. Meanhwile the Volkswagen Polo scored 4 Stars and 3 Stars respectively in Adult and Child Occupants.
Among the current cars in production, Mahindra Marazzo, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Honda Amaze achieved 4-Star in Adult Occupants and 2-Stars in Child Occupants Safety. Out of the 'Top 7 Safest Cars in India', 6 of them are Indian brands. It’s surprising to see that top-selling models from Maruti Suzuki like Swift, Ertiga, Wagon R are still behind in Safety Rating. New Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Hyundai Santro and Swift got just 2-Stars in both Adult and Child Occupants Safety. While Maruti Ertiga achieved 3-Stars in Adult and Child Occupants Rating. As for Ford Aspire and Renault Duster, they scored a 3-Star Rating in Adult Occupant Safety and just 2-Star in Child Occupant Safety.
