Mahindra XUV300

Mahindra had launched the XUV300 sub 4 meter compact SUV with just manual transmission options in the market and this was a major deterrent for many prospective customers of the latest sub compact SUV from the brand. However, now the brand has come up with a media test drive date for the automatic variant of the SUV. What is even more good news is that the automatic option will be available on both the petrol as well as diesel models of the SUV. Mahindra XUV300 will likely come with a 6 speed AMT unit on both the petrol and diesel model of the vehicle. This will make it even more capable of taking on the rivalry in the segment in the form of Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, and Ford EcoSport. While the Tata Nexon comes with automatic option on both diesel as well as petrol models, Maruti Brezza offers AMT on diesel model only whereas the Hyundai Venue comes with an automatic option only on petrol model.

Although the Indian UV maker is bringing out the automatic option on the petrol engine for the first time, there are no mechanical changes expected in either the diesel or the petrol model of the SUV. Talking of the engines, the 1.2 liter petrol engine leads the segment in torque output and produces 110 Bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque. While the 1.5 liter diesel engine is ahead of segment in power and produces 115 Bhp of power and 300 Nm of torque.

As far as the time of launch of is concerned Mahindra took its time to enter the segment with XUV300. However, in order to distinguish its offering, Mahindra has taken the premium approach and loaded the XUV300 with features to the brim. The latest SUV from Mahindra comes with ambient lighting, electric sunroof, rain sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 60:40 split rear seat and more. Moving on to safety features the XUV300 comes with 7 airbags, seat belt reminders for all five passengers, disc brakes on all four wheels, ABS, EBD, anti-roll over protection, electronic stability program, traction control, hill hold, cruise control and tyre pressure monitoring system.

All this does come at a price though and the XUV300 does become a bit pricier  than other options in the segment as the base petrol model of the SUV starts from Rs. 7.9 lakhs whereas the base diesel commands a price of Rs. 8.5 lakhs. However, now that the company is all set to introduce an AMT automatic option on both the engine options in the market, there are hopes that the customers will not mind paying a premium for the vehicle with the kind of features and space it has to offer in the segment.
