Mahindra To Launch 3 New EVs in India by 2021

The government is pushing for faster adoption of electric vehicles in the Indian market and the makers also seem to be stepping up. However, there are some companies who have been in the electric vehicle segment in the Indian market for quite some time and the first name that figures in the list is that of Mahindra. The Indian maker earlier sold e2O and e2O Plus hatch in the Indian market but these got discontinued in the BNVSAP era. The maker also has eVerito sedan in the Indian market and recently the Indian Army inducted 10 units of the same in their fleet. Talking of the future plans of the company, the maker is gearing up to launch several other electric vehicle in the Indian market in the next couple of years.

The managing director the company also recently stated that the maker will be launching a total of 3 electric vehicles in the Indian market in the next couple of years. As stated by the brand, these vehicles will be the electric version of KUV100 micro-SUV, XUV300 sub-4 metre compact SUV, and the Aspire sedan. Talking of the electric version of KUV100 first, it will be the entry level EV of the brand in the Indian market and it is expected to be launched by the end of 2019. The maker had also presented the electric version of KUV100 at the Auto Expo last year. However, the exact details of the vehicle were not revealed. Nonetheless, there are hopes that the vehicle will come with a range of around 140 kms and will be powered by a 40 kW battery pack. The car has already been spied during testing on Indian roads.

After the KUV100, the other vehicle from the company’s stables to get the electrified treatment will be the XUV300 sub-4 metre compact SUV. The newly launched vehicle will also be launched in the electric version in the next couple of years and it may have a range of around 400 kms. Although the pricing of the vehicle will be a bit on the higher side, the subsidies and the tax benefits will make the package from Mahindra more attractive in the Indian market. Upon launch, the electric version of XUV300 will take on the likes of Hyundai Kona, which currently happens to be the lone electric SUV in the Indian market.

Ford and Mahindra have joined hands in India to develop vehicles for the Indian market and the first car that the duo will launch will be an electric sedan – the electrified version of Ford Aspire. While the model is being supplied by Ford, it is the Indian UV maker Mahindra that is working on the electric powertrain for the upcoming electric car. The company is working on developing a new powertrain for the car that will provide the car with a decent range and will also pack a punch when it comes to performance.  The upcoming sedan will likely come with a 380V battery pack that will be rated for 60 kW or around 81 PS. The batteries used here will be of Lithium ion type. The top speed of the sedan will likely be around 110 km/h and the range is supposed to be 150 kms on a full battery.
