Mahindra plans to focus on SUVs positioned in various price brackets

As per a media report, Mahindra & Mahindra will be phasing out the entry-level KUV100 NXT and Marazzo MPV in the Indian market. The brand does not plan to give any new updates to both models. Instead it will be focusing on a slew of new products that it plans to introduce by 2024.

Mahindra launched the BS6 version of Marazzo in August last year. The MPV houses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder, diesel engine that churns out 121 bhp power output with 300 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual gearbox. If we talk about the sales number for Marazzo from January to April 2021, the MPV has sold only 711 units. While its rivals, Toyota Innova Crysta has registered a whopping 19,300 units in sales and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has managed to sell 37,286 units in the same period. As of now there are no plans of giving major updates to the MPV. Also, the brand has decided to end the production of Marazzo.

Moving on to Mahindra’s another slow-selling model, KUV100 NXT, the micro-SUV has registered only 21 units in the span of four months. The BS6 version of KUV100 NXT was launched last year in the Indian market. Under the hood, the micro-SUV is powered by a  1.2-litre, mFalcon G80, petrol engine that belts out a maximum power of 82 bhp and a peak torque of 115 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox. The micro-SUV does not have a direct competitor. But when we look at models like the Maruti Ignis that falls in the same price range as KUV100 NXT, it has sold 16,075 units during the same period. As of now the KUV100 will continue to live on for a while longer as Mahindra will soon launch an electric version of the micro-SUV. It will be called eKUV100 and it will be used as a city runabout. Besides these, we can expect it to be launched sometime next year in the country.
