New-Gen Mahindra Thar is making waves in India since its launch on October 2, 2020. It has received tremendous response in the domestic market with over 20,000 booking requests received so far. In the first week of its launch, the SUV bagged 9,000 orders indicating that it has been a roaring success in the country. With the burgeoning demand, the Indian automaker is now dispatching the off-roader to dealerships. It is believed that 500 units are on the way to the customers to be delivered during this Diwali period plus another 1200 units have been sent to dealership last month (October 2020). With an eye on the increasing demand, the SUV production is currently being ramped up at Mahindra's Nashik manufacturing facility. Thus the manufacturer has increased the production capacity from 2,000 units per month to 3,000 to keep pace with the increasing demand. As of now, the waiting period for the 2020 Next-Gen Mahindra Thar is upto 7 months depending upon the variant selected.

Recently, the first unit of All-New Mahindra Thar 4X4 was delivered to Aakash Minda, CEO of Minda Corporation. He won the online auction conducted in the month of September and paid Rs 1.11 crore to own the first New-Gen Mahindra Thar. He chose to purchase the top-end LX petrol automatic transmission convertible variant. The new-generation model comes with plenty of upgrades in form of design, engine options plus features too. The popular SUV is sold with two engine options - petrol and diesel. 2020 Thar comes in two variants - AX and LX. AX further comes in 3 trims- AX STD, AX and AX OPT. Top-end LX comes in only one variant. The manufacturer is giving hardtop or convertible options with AX opt and LX trims. While AX STD and AX variants get only the soft-top option. Talking about the pricing, the 2020 Mahindra Thar AX variant starts at Rs 9.80 lakhs (ex-showroom), India while the LX begins from Rs 12.49 lakhs (ex-showroom), India.

Key design elements on Next-Gen Mahindra Thar include a square-shaped grille, circular headlamps featuring LED DRLs, dual-tone bumpers, alloy wheels, and LED taillights. The performance in the new-gen SUV is certainly an upgrade over the older model. As a result, the petrol Thar is powered by a 2.0-litre mStallion engine that delivers 150 bhp of power output and 350 Nm of peak torque. Meanwhile the diesel 4X4 houses a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder CRDi unit under the hood. The powertrain churns out a maximum power output of 130 bhp with 320 Nm of peak torque. Both petrol and diesel models get transmission options of a 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes. Perspective buyer can also opt for a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission that is available with the LX trim. The AX variant comes with only a manual gearbox.
