Mahindra & Mahindra has issued a recall for the Thar SUV in the Indian market. Reportedly, the diesel variants of the off-roader have been recalled over faulty camshafts and since this is a voluntary recall, they will be replaced free of cost. The company is recalling a total of 1577 units of Thar which were manufactured September 7 and December 25, 2020. Mahindra will notify those customers individually on its own whose vehicles have been affected by this recall while inspecting their vehicles for absolutely free.

According to the company, it is recalling these units of Thar due to a machine-setting error at the supplier's plant which might affect the camshafts in the near future. The new-gen Mahindra Thar had its world premiere on August 15, 2020 while it went on sale on October 2, 2020 in the country. The SUV was priced in a range of Rs 9.80-12.95 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) while the deliveries started from mid November across the country in a phased wise manner. The company has been struggling with the deliveries since the launch as the waiting period for some of the variants have gone upto 9 months in certain cities. Mahindra Thar was presented in two trim levels: LX and AX.

Mahindra, for the first time, introduced front facing seats in the Mahindra Thar as earlier it only used to come with side facing bench seats. Mechanically, it was offered with a petrol and diesel engine. The petrol variants draw power from a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine which delivers top power of 150bhp and peak torque of 350Nm while the diesel variants were powered by a 2.2L 4-cylinder mHawk engine which generates maximum power output of 130bhp and highest torque performance of 320Nm. Both the engines are available with a 6-speed manual as well as an automatic transmission. The company, living upto the expectations of Thar enthusiasts, also offered a 4x4 drive system with the Thar.
