New reports suggest that Indian UV maker Mahindra is gearing up to launch an updated version of the current-generation Thar SUV.

That Mahindra is developing a new model of their famous off-roading lifestyle SUV Thar is common knowledge at this point as the camouflaged version of the SUV has been spotted many times on the roads. However, there are reports online stating that the Indian UV maker is also gearing up to launch an updated version of the current generation Mahindra Thar before the new model hits the markets next year. To let you know, ever since its launch in 2010, Mahindra Thar has not been updated even once and it has gone on to achieve great sales figures for the company. However, with the new updated to the safety norms that will be enforced from October 2019, the sales of Thar will have to be stopped due to the vehicle being non-compliant to updated BNVSAP crash test norms.

Therefore, before the final discontinuation in the market, the company has decided to launch a limited-edition model of the SUV in India. This model will be known as the Mahindra Thar Signature Edition. The units of this edition will be limited to only 700 pieces. The Signature Edition of Thar will be offered in two shades -- Napoli Black and Aquamarine.

The new reports on the internet suggest that the upcoming limited-edition model of Mahindra Thar will feature quite a few new things that will distinguish it from other models of the SUV. The new Signature Edition Thar will come with 5-spoke 15-inch alloy wheels and a lot of different decals. The front bonnet cover will feature black stickers with silver accents. The front will also feature a branding of the “Signature Edition”. The chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra will also autograph every unit of the Signature Edition Mahindra Thar.

Apart from the aesthetic changes, the limited edition of Mahindra Thar will also come with front facing rear seats that are likely to be covered in upmarket feeling faux leather covers. Not just the features but the cabin space is also likely to be increased in the new version of Mahindra Thar. The front facing seats and the increased cabin space are also something that is reminiscent of the new and updated generation of Mahindra Thar. However, the company has not stated as to how the extra space will be achieved in the limited version of Mahindra Thar.

The mechanicals of the new Mahindra Thar are expected to remain the same and the changes are meant to be aesthetic and feature focused only. However, these changes will mean that the new limited-edition Mahindra Thar Signature Edition will surely see a price hike in the Indian market.
