Kia Motors India to extend production to three shifts at its Anantpura manufacturing facility

Kia Motors India is all set to launch the most-awaited Sonet SUV in September 2020. The South Korean automaker recently commenced bookings of the subcompact SUV at a token amount of Rs 25,000. The SUV registered 6500 plus bookings on the first day of its introduction in the Indian market. According to a source, the bookings have now crossed the 10,000 units mark. In these, diesel automatic base (HTK+), diesel automatic top (GTX+), and petrol turbo DCT GT Line (GTX+) have been booked the most. With such an overwhelming response, the company’s Anantpura manufacturing facility is likely to expand production to three shifts. Apart from this, Kia Sonet will be exported to global markets as well. 

The upcoming Sonet will be offered in two trims namely Tech Line and GT Line. In terms of design, the front fascia of the SUV features a black-finished tiger-nose grille with chrome surrounds, sleek LED headlamps along with LED DRLs. While the rear end gets full LED tail-lamps, a rear diffuser, and dual exhaust pipes. Notable interior features include the largest and best-in-class 10.25-inch HD touchscreen with navigation and live traffic, BOSE premium seven-speaker audio with subwoofer, LED Sound Mood Lighting, OTA map updates, multi-drive & traction modes along with grip control, and wireless smartphone charger with cooling function. The SUV also offers ventilated front seats with India’s first smart air purifier having virus protection.


Under the bonnet, the upcoming Kia Sonet will get three engine options. A 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that will pump out 83 bhp power and 115 Nm torque while being linked to a 5-speed manual transmission. Then there will be a 1.0-litre TGDi turbo petrol engine mated to a 6-speed iMT gearbox along with 7-speed DCT transmission as an option. This powertrain will generate 118 bhp power and 172 Nm torque. The engine options also include a 1.5-litre diesel unit that will churn out a maximum power output of 100 bhp with 240 Nm of peak torque. It will be linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox along with a six-speed automatic gearbox.
