The all-new Kia Sonet gets the segment’s largest 10.25-inch horizontally oriented touchscreen infotainment system

Kia Motors is all set to globally unveil the Sonet SUV tomorrow in India. This subcompact SUV will be the third offering from Kia in the Indian market after Seltos and Carnival MPV. The South Korean automaker has listed the SUV on its official website. Over the months, multiple spy shots have been shared online.

Recently, the company released the sketches of the interior and exterior, thus giving us a fair idea of what the sub 4-m SUV can look like. Upfront, it gets the signature ‘tiger-nose’ black finished front grille with chrome surrounds. It also features sleek LED headlamps along with LED DRLs. At the rear end, it gets a full LED tail-lamp cluster, a rear diffuser, and dual exhaust pipes. One can also find a Kia badge mounted on the tailgate. The all-new SUV will ride on 16-inch alloy wheels that get muscular-looking wheel arches with black cladding.

Talking about the interior features, the cabin of the Sonet sports the segment’s largest 10.25-inch horizontally oriented touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and UVO Connect which comes with eSIM connectivity features. Further, it also gets a fully digital instrument cluster. Other features include engine start/stop button, rear AC vents, wireless chargr among others. The air-conditioning vents along with climate control display and controls have been placed underneath the floating touchscreen. The silver finishing on the door trims, steering wheel, and gear level area gives the car a premium feel.

Under the bonnet, the upcoming Kia Sonet will get three engine options. The petrol variants will be powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will produce 118 bhp of power output with 172 Nm of peak torque. This engine will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox along with a 7-speed Dual-Clutch Automatic gearbox as an option. There will also be a 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to a manual gearbox only. This engine will belt out 82 bhp power and 114 Nm torque. Furthermore, the diesel variant will draw its power from a 1.5-litre oil mill that will produce 99 bhp power and 240 Nm torque while coming equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The upcoming Kia Sonet is likely to fall in the price bracket of Rs 7 lakhs - Rs 12 lakhs (ex-showroom). It is being speculated that the SUV will be offered in two primary variants namely GT Line and HT Line. Once the SUV is launched in the Indian market, then it will rival the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Ford Ecosport, and Tata Nexon.
