Kia Motors is working on its all-electric Seltos SUV which will be revealed in the coming few months. Globally the Seltos EV will join Seltos petrol and diesel line up. The company has named the EV as SP2 EV internationally which is being road-tested around different parts of the world.

At the moment the Seltos is being currently produced at two of Kia’s production facilities one in Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh, India, and in Gwangju, Korea. The Seltos SUV went on sale in both India and Korea in August 2019.

The Seltos EV will share its underpinnings and body panels and its interior bits with Seltos but the electric SUV is all set to receive minor styling tweaks to differentiate it from standard EV.

The Seltos EV will probably come with the same electric powertrain as the Kia Soul EV and Hyundai Kona EV. In other words, we can expect the SUV to get a 204 bhp of the electric motor which will derive power from a 64 kWh battery pack. Due to the large dimensions of the powertrain, the Seltos EV will have a range lesser than the other two SUVs. On fully charged, the Seltos EV is estimated to have a range of around 400km.

We can expect Kia to sell EV SUVs primarily in Asian markets, at least initially. The model is expectedly to follow the same launch pattern as of the other standard Seltos which is the first launch in Korean and then introduced in other global markets like India. The Global production of the Seltos EV is expected to start from August 2020.
