Kia Carnival Latest Crash Test

Kia Motors has launched Carnival in the price bracket of Rs 24.95 lakhs - Rs 33.95 lakhs (ex-showroom) in the Indian market. The MPV is offered in three trims namely Premium, Prestige, and Limousine. While most of the brands perform horizontal crash and a head-on collision tests to determine the impact-absorbing ability of its offering, Kia Motors in New Zealand recently conducted a unique vertical crash test. For the test, the current iteration of the Kia Carnival MPV was used. The vehicle was dropped from a vertical height of 12.6 m. A crane was used to lay the vehicle on a vertically flat surface aligned at 90 degrees from the surface below. The MPV was then dropped from the height at a speed of 56 kmph.

This test clearly shows that the MPV had absorbed the impact in a pretty good way. There was damage on the front bonnet and bumper. The rear end faced minimal damage. Apart from this, the airbags were also deployed. Since most of the impact was absorbed by the safety zone, thus the legs of the dummies kept inside were not effected that deeply. Earlier, the Kia Carnival has already received Five Star in the ANCAP crash testing rating. The current model is also available in the Indian market. Recently, an incident with the India-spec Kia Carnival proves that the vehicle surely does have the ability to absorb any kind of impact subjected towards it. In this instance, a person went to the dealership to take the delivery of his new Kia Carnival. But this special moment turned out to be a nightmare for him.

A video uploaded online by BMC HD videos on Youtube expains the new owner's plight. According to the video, it can be seen that one of the dealership's personnel is explaining the owner about the controls and switches of the new MPV along with the other functionalities. A person can also be seen clicking pictures of the new car along with its owner. However, things turn ugly as soon as the owner got into the car. In utter excitement, he seemed to put his foot down on the accelerator instead of gradually pushing it to move the Carnival ahead. This further lead to the MPV crashing into a concrete wall. The crashing of the car was strong enough to deploy the front airbags. However, no one was hurt in the process including the motorcycle that was parked close by.

The Dealership was quick to take the call. They immediately informed their workshop and dispatched the damaged Kia Carnival for repairs. This is likely to be quite an expensive repair as the new Carnival’s bonnet, bumper, and side panels were damaged in the incident. Apart from this, the coolant and wiper washing fluid seemed to have leaked. There are certain parts that will also need replacement on the inside. The owner will have to wait before enjoying his new car experience. Such type of incidents shows the impact absorbing ability of the vehicle.
