The US carmaker Jeep seems to be on a launch spree in the Indian market as just after the launch of the most capable version of the Compass -- the Compass TrailHawk -- in the Indian market, the maker has gone ahead and launched the Wrangler JL on-off road SUV in the Indian market. The prices for the latest Wrangler JL starts at Rs. 63.94 lakhs, ex-showroom, India and it will replace the JK Wrangler in the Indian market. Unveiled by the cricketing legend Kapil Dev, the latest Wrangler from the brand comes with a variety of changes including the new JL platform and it will be sold via 10 Jeep Destination stores across the nation. The price difference between the older JK Wrangler and the latest Wrangler JL is around Rs. 8 lakhs.
Talking on the occasion of the launch of the latest Wrangler JL in the Indian market, the managing director of FCA India, Kevin Flynn stated,
We are pleased to present the legendary all-new Jeep Wrangler to our Indian customers who have been eagerly waiting for this New Generation model. The iconic Wrangler is an important vehicle for us to have in our portfolio as it is the flagbearer of Jeep values and has been part of the brand’s illustrious history for nearly eight decades, across the globe, and in India since its introduction in 2016.
Perhaps as a response to the growing unpopularity of the diesel cars in market, the US maker too has gone ahead and axed the diesel variant for the latest Jeep Wrangler JL in India. The new SUV comes with a 2L 4 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine rated to deliver 265 Bhp and 400 Nm. The transmission duties on the latest Wrangler JL are handled by an 8 speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The SUV is also very capable of off-roading and it comes with a four wheel drive transfer case with low and high gear ratios as standard.
Talking of the other changes one gets to see on the latest Wrangler JL, the entire design of the vehicle is fresh and different than the outgoing model. Step inside and the changes are even starker as there is a large touchscreen infotainment unit with the standard connectivity options of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on offer. The Wrangler JL comes with locking differentials at the front and rear, a Selectrac off road system with multiple off road modes and on-off road all terrain tyres. The safety on the latest Jeep is handled by 8 airbags, traction control, roll over mitigation, ABS, reverse parking camera and sensors, ESP with an off-road bias built in, hill hold assist and hill descent control. The water wading depth of the new SUV is rated at 762 mm and the ground clearance is 215 mm. This should give you a clear idea as to how capable this SUV will be when taken off the road. As of now, the company is only selling the long-wheelbase version of the Wrangler JL in the Indian market and although the smaller wheelbase version has been spotted testing there is no confirmation on the launch of the same in India as of now.
