Tata-owned Jaguar to launch iPace SUV and other electric cars in India.

Tata Group owned Jaguar-Land Rover has recently announced that the famous British brand is planning to launch its electrified products in India. The Tata-owned British luxury brand announced that they will bring their electric models to India by the end of 2019. Keeping in view the vision of the luxury brand to introduce an electric car in every segment of their models, the Indian division of the brand has now announced that these new models will include fully electric as well as hybrid cars that will be launched in India one after the other beginning from the end of 2019. While the hybrid cars will be based on JLR’s current model line-up in India, the brand will launch the fully electric Jaguar iPace electric SUV in India in 2020.

The British luxury brand only has the FPace in India in the SUV segment, and the upcoming iPace is the electric version of the very same car. The iPace has already received good reviews in the international market and the brand will import the car in India as a completely built unit, thereby pushing its prices up due to the taxes levied on imports in India. The upcoming iPace will be targeted at the premium market in order to introduce the high-end customers to the thrills of driving an all-electric SUV.

On the brand’s move to bring electric cars to India, President and Managing Director of JLR India, Rohit Suri said:

Jaguar Land Rover’s focus is to commit itself to a more sustainable future and our engineers have developed just the right products to lead us on this path. The introduction of electrified vehicles in Jaguar Land Rover India’s  portfolio is in line with the government’s thrust towards electric vehicles. The company is encouraged by the  introduction of FAME-II by the Government of India and it focus on expansion of the charging infrastructure in the  country. This is bound to help with faster adoption of all kinds of Electric Vehicles in due course.

Talking about the Jaguar iPace, it can go from 0-100 kmph in just under 4.5 seconds, and don’t forget it is a SUV! This is made possible by the presence of 2 electric motors that are rated to produce 197 PS and 348 Nm each taking the output of the SUV to massive 394 PS and 696 Nm! Since the iPace is an all-electric, it has all the 696 Newton meters of torque to use right from the go at just the depression of a paddle! The all-electric iPace comes with an all-wheel drive system as standard. The battery department has been left to the 90 KwH Li-ion battery, and the power unit has been rated to take the SUV around 400 kilometers away when fully charged. The quick charge facility on the SUV can make it go to 4/5ths of it capacity in only 45 minutes.

The iPace has a crossover SUV kind of design and it is a 5 seater SUV. The aforementioned motors of the iPace are responsible for delivering power to the front and rear set of wheels. Apart from the blistering 0-100 acceleration timing the iPace SUV has a top speed of 200 Kmph that has been limited to for extra battery life. As we have already stated the iPace will come to India as a CBU, hence it will be marketed to only top-end luxury car customers.
