Jeep will be unveiling its three-row Compass-based SUV in the global markets on August 26, 2021. The new SUV will be sold as Jeep Commander in South America. While its right-hand-drive version will be called Jeep Meridian and will go on sale in India in the first half of 2022. As for the price, we can expect the new SUV to fall in the range of Rs 28 lakhs - Rs 32 lakhs.

Jeep Commander (Meridian): Design

The upcoming Jeep Meridian has been spotted doing test runs on multiple occasions in the past. Design-wise, the SUV looks quite similar to the Compass and the Grand Cherokee. The front fascia features a multi-slatted vertical grille and rectangular-shaped LED headlamps with DRLs. In addition, it gets a high-set bonnet and a big bumper with wider air in-let. Moving towards the rear, the SUV gets horizontally placed LED tail lamps and an upright tailgate.

Jeep Commander (Meridian): Features

Last month, the interior images of Jeep Meridian had been teased online. The images gave us a fair idea of what all features the SUV might come equipped with. From the images, the dashboard and other interior bits were quite similar to the Compass facelift. Furthermore, the SUV gets gold rose accents on the lower centre console. The seats come wrapped in a more premium, brown leather and suede upholstery with a cross-stitching pattern. Moving on, third-row passengers can easily access features like blower speed adjustment and charging ports. Besides these, the teaser images also reveal that the upcoming Meridian will get a bench-type seat in the middle row. Most of the features will be carried forward from the Compass. The feature list consists of a 10.25-inch digital driver display & 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, ambient lighting, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, steering-mounted audio controls, and a panoramic sunroof.

Jeep Commander (Meridian): Engine Specifications

Under the hood, the Jeep Commander to go on sale in the international market will come with a 1.3-litre turbo flex diesel engine that generates a top power of 185 bhp and a peak torque of 270 Nm. Transmission duties will be taken care of by a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The India-bound Jeep Meridian (Compass), on the other hand, might get the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder Multijet diesel unit that does the duty on the Compass. We can expect the engine to produce around 200 bhp power which is a bit more than what Compass churns out (170 bhp). Moving on, the engine is likely to be linked to a 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. It is also being speculated that the upcoming Meridian might come with a 48V mild-hybrid tech with a BSG (belt-driven starter generator) to keep emissions and fuel economy in check.
