News Highlights

  • Hyundai Motor India has discontinued its subcompact sedan the Xcent.
  • Hyundai Xcent has been removed from the company's official website.
  • Hyundai Xcent offered both petrol and diesel engines.
  • Though Hyundai Xcent Prime aimed at fleet operator is still available for sale in the country.

In a fresh development, Hyundai Motor India has removed the Xcent model from its official website. Earlier this year, Hyundai launched the Aura subcompact sedan to replace the Xcent in the Indian market.  Though keeping in mind the popularity of the car among fleet operators, the South Korean automaker decided to continue its sale alongside the Aura until now. Launched back in 2014, the Hyundai Xcent has sold over 2.5 lakh units in the domestic market making it a huge success in the sub-4 metre sedan segment. The Hyundai Xcent was also exported overseas with over 1.29 lakh units shipped in five years since its launch in 2014. Earlier this year in March, the company had discontinued the Xcent petrol automatic thus focusing only on the Aura. Currently, Hyundai retails Aura, Verna and Elantra in the sedan segment.

Hyundai Xcent came equipped with both petrol and diesel engines. Thus the petrol models were fitted with a 1.2-litre unit that delivered 82 bhp of power output @ 6000 RPM and 114 Nm of peak torque @ 4,000 RPM. While the 1.2-litre diesel engine churned out 74 bhp of power output @ 4000 RPM and 190 Nm of peak torque @ 1,750-2,250 RPM. Both petrol and diesel powertrains were coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. As of now, Hyundai Xcent Prime aimed at fleet operators is still available for sale in the country. The sub-4 metre sedan comes with a factory-fitted CNG kit housing a 1.2-litre petrol engine under the hood. Transmission duty is being taken care of by a 5-speed manual gearbox. Further, the manufacturer has electronically limited its speed to 80 kmph.

Talking about the Hyundai Aura, it has a completely new design and appeal. Key design elements like a satin silver grille up front, projector headlamps, fog lamps with chrome surround, twin boomerang-shaped LED DRL's,  15-inch four spoke diamond cut alloy wheels and z-shaped LED tail lamps make it look quite attractive. Under the hood, it  features 4 engine options like a  1.0-litre turbo GDi petrol, 1.2-litre Eco TORQ diesel, 1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT petrol and a 1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT Bi-Fuel (Petrol CNG). Hyundai Aura's starting price is Rs 5.85 lakh (ex-showroom), Gurgaon with the top-end trim retailing at Rs 7.34 lakhs (ex-showroom).

In the first week of November 2020, we would also witness the launch of New-Gen Hyundai i20 premium hatchback in India. Unofficial bookings have already begun at a token amount of Rs 15,000- Rs 25,000. All-New Hyundai i20 would rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Volkswagen Polo, Honda Jazz and Tata Altroz in its segment.
