Hyundai’s compact SUV will make it global debut on 17th April .

The compact SUV market has been one of the fastest growing car segments in India. Maruti’s Brezza is the leader followed by other options like the Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and the newly launched Mahindra XUV300. Hyundai too will join the market with their upcoming small, sub 4m SUV. Here are some interesting need to know facts about the product

1. Carlino to Venue journey

Remember the Carlino concept that was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo? The Venue compact SUV is based on the same concept and has taken over three years in the making. Along the way, the vehicle was also known as the QXi (code name) and even the Styx of late.

2. It's a global product

The Venue will not only make its global debut here in India on the 17th April, it will also be showcased the 2019 New York Motor show at the same time. Hyundai sells cars in as many as 193 countries and the Venue will be sold in key international markets. Development of the product has also taken place at numerous locations including inputs from Hyundai’s global R&D centers

3. Feature loaded

Hyundai claims the Venue will be the most connected car in the segment with unique features not even seen in cars that belong to higher end segments. It will also sport a sunroof, ventilated seats, wireless charging, telematics among other driver and passenger aids. Hyundai already offers cars that come with segment first or segment defining features.

4. Performance on tap

The Venue will come with three engine options. The diesel one will be the same 1.4-litre unit that powers the Creta and the Verna and will be mated to a 6-speed manual ‘box. The petrol will have two options: a 1.4-litre 100 bhp unit and a smaller 1.0 turbo-petrol unit that will come mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic. The latter is the one to watch out for!

5. Launch and pricing

Hyundai will officially launch the Venue in May 2019. Bookings should start by next month and this compact SUV will be positioned in the upper end of the segment. The Brezza and Nexon are priced at the lower end but given the performance and features on offer, the Venue will lock horns with the EcoSport and the XUV300!
