Hyundai is working on a new crossover measuring around 4 meters in length for the European markets lately. The Korean automaker has recently released a new teaser image for the same. The teaser reveals the moniker ‘Bayon’ which further indicates that it could be the new name for Hyundai’s upcoming compact crossover. The company had even filed the trademark for the same with the European Union earlier this year.
Hyundai Bayon compact crossover was spotted doing test runs in Europe. It is likely to be launched in 2021. Furthermore, the company has not revealed any information regarding the Bayon yet. However, we can expect it to use the Next-Gen Hyundai i20's platform. The teaser image reveals that the lights will come in a different shape in comparison to the i20 and the Venue. It also shows a very wide red line on the trunk lid. The compact crossover is expected to get design bits like a signature cascading front grille, LED signature headlamps, and boomerang-shaped LED tail-lamps.
The upcoming Hyundai Bayon is likely to be offered with two petrol engine options - a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged engine and a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated unit. Thus the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit offers two states of tunes - 100 bhp power & 172 Nm torque alongside 120 bhp power & 172 Nm torque. While the 1.2-litre powertrain produces 82 bhp power and 113 Nm torque. As for the transmission, the 1.2-litre engine will get a 5-speed manual gearbox only with the 1.0-litre turbocharged mill that would provide a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT stick shift.
The new Hyundai Bayon is expected to be positioned below Kona in the company's product portfolio. Also, it is exclusively being designed and developed for the European market. So India launch is very unlikely as we already have the Hyundai Venue in a similar category.
