Hyundai Starex MPV will be a potential rival to the likes of Toyota Innova Crysta and Kia Carnival.

Hyundai India has planned a plethora of new product launches in the country in the coming couple of years. This range of new products include 7-seater Creta, new-gen Tucson and an all-new MPV. The Creta 7-seater and new-gen Tucson have already been in the news for a long time but there is very little information available regarding the MPV. We have learnt that the new Hyundai MPV will be a potential rival to the likes of Toyota Innova Crysta and Kia Carnival while it will be launched in India by mid of 2021.

Currently, the South-Korean automaker is conducting a feasibility study for the MPV and if everything goes alright, then we might see a Hyundai badged big premium MPV in the league of Toyota Innova Crysta and Kia Carnival. It is being believed that the all-new MPV will be the revised version of Kia Carnival. It is not the first time that the company is contemplating the introduction of an MPV in the Indian market as it had earlier too showcased the the Hexa Space MPV concept at 2012 Auto Expo. The Maruti Ertiga rival couldn't make it to production as it was shelved midway. But, this time, it will be a notch higher in segment and bigger in size than the Innova Crysta but identical to the Carnival. For those asking, Kia Carnival has been receiving a decent response in India so far.

Reports are also coming in that Hyundai Starex MPV might make its debut in India. Being based on the next-gen N3 architecture, the third-gen MPV has already begun testing. The same platform is also used in the Kia Carnival and new Sorento SUV. Under the hood, the India-spec Hyundai Starex will have a 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine which will generate maximum power output of 197bhp and peak torque performance of 440Nm. It will be linked to a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission as standard while the power will be transmitted to the front wheels. Hyundai has neither confirmed nor denied about these developments but we can tell you that a big-sized Hyundai MPV will soon hit the Indian roads.
