The EV is currently being evaluated for the Indian market.

The Kona Electric is claimed to be able to cover 470 kilometres on a full charge in its 64kWh specification. The small SUV has two battery options, one is the 64kWh battery and the other is a 39.2kWh battery pack that allows it to cover 300km. Both variants can hit a top-speed of 167kph. The car will be revealed at this year's Geneva motor show.

The car with the 133hp motor can hit 100kph in 9.3sec, while the 200hp variant takes 7.6sec.  Hyundai has said the battery pack hasn’t eaten into any of the Kona’s interiors and even luggage space is unchanged. There’s additional storage space in the front of the car of the car as well.

The Kona Electric’s lithium ion battery pack takes 54min to charge to 80 percent capacity from a 100kW fast charger. Without it, the car takes 9hr 40min from a standard AC source. The standard AC charge time for the lower-powered version falls to 6hr 10min.

While the car is similarly styled to the Kona, on the outside there’s a closed grille and no exhausts, and the 17-inch alloys are exclusive to this version. The bumpers and spoiler have also been modified to be better aerodynamically. In the cabin, there’s a digital dashboard, head-up display and a 7.0-inch infotainment touchscreen. You can upgrade this to an 8.0-inch unit as well, which comes with uprated navigation and a data subscription for one year. You get heated and ventilated front seats that are eight-way electrically adjustable. The Kona Electric will feature a numerous driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, a lane centring system, rear cross-traffic alert and automatic emergency braking. The car also comes with a five-star certification from Euro NCAP.

Hyundai Plans to add 16 electrified cars in its international lineup by 2025 and is planning to bring the Kona EV to India as well.
