After numerous leaks about the Venue and even more renders of the Carlino Concept, South Korean maker unveiled the Venue SUV last month and it has been finally launched in the Indian market now. The prices for the base model of the SUV being at Rs. 6.53 lakhs, ex-showroom India and at this price point, the Venue SUV undercuts several major rivals in the segment. The model line-up of Venue SUV tops out at Rs. 11,10 lakhs with the SX+ variant being the top model in the line-up. Although loaded with features, the South Korean maker has managed to price the Venue variants in a manner where every customer has something to choose from. Hyundai will sell the Venue SUV in 5 trims and they will comes in 11 variants. This means a wide range of choice with something for every customer. What the South Korean maker lost on time in the segment, it hopes to make up on the features aspect.

While the company managed more than 2000 bookings on the very first day of the launch of the SUV, the dealers of Hyundai had started bookings for the SUV some time back and now the deliveries of the SUV will hopefully commence soon. The waterfall grille at the front with chrome work on the grille lending a distinct identity to the South Korean maker’s SUV. The headlamps are placed below the turn indicators here, a design trend that is growing increasingly common in the industry. Sides reveal a different story as the design here looks Creta inspired but the lines on the body give the Venue a distinct identity for sure. Talking of the dimensions of the SUV, the Venue measures in at 3,995 mm long, 1,770 mm wide and 1,590 mm high. The wheelbase, on the other hand, is 2,500 mm, which is around 100 mm less than the segment leader Mahindra XUV300.

The Venue’s ‘Smart Connect SUV’ tag will arm it with 33 features and among these, 10 have been developed especially for India and it will feature the brand’s ‘BlueLink Connected Technology’. The BlueLink technology in the Venue will work via an e-SIM that will come pre-installed with the car and it offers car tracking, geo-fencing, overspeeding updates, tow-away, time fencing, the vehicle remote on a smartphone, SOS calls, customer support, real-time traffic information, remotely check the car status, find the car and India-specific voice assistance.

Other segment leading features on the Venue are 3 year/unlimited Kms warranty, 7 speed twin clutch automatic gearbox and air purifier function for the air conditioning. Safety features are also a aplenty on the SUV with the Venue coming with push button start, keyless entry, LED DRLs, cruise control, 6 airbags on the top-end variant, ABS, EBD, ESP, hill hold and traction control.

As far as the mechanicals of the upcoming Venue are concerned, the South Korean maker is offering a new 1 liter 3 cylinder turbo petrol engine rated to deliver 120 PS and 175 Nm, this engine has been developed by the company in-house. This new engine comes with a 7-speed twin clutch gearbox and a 6 speed manual. As far as the other engines are concerned, there are two more options with the first one being a 1.2L petrol rated for 82 PS and 114 Nm and mate to 5 speed manual gearbox. The second one is a 1.4L turbo diesel engine rated for 90 PS and 220 Nm and mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox. The SUV will be sold as a front wheel drive car and there will be no all-wheel drive on offer, even as an option.

The perennial concern of the Indian customer about mileage has also been taken care by the company. The South Korean maker has stated that the 1.2L petrol engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox is rated for a mileage figure of 17.52 kmpl. The turbo petrol option with a 3-pot configuration comes in manual as well as automatic gearbox option and the while the manual version is rated for 18.27 kmpl the 7-speed Dual-Clutch automatic transmission is rated for 18.15 km/l. However, the mileage champ here is the 1.4L diesel engine. The unit comes only with a 6-speed manual transmission and is rated to deliver a mileage of 23.7 km/l.
