Hyundai India had made an announcement earlier this week that it will introduce its high-performance N range of vehicles in the country. A couple of days later, it teased the i20N, hinting that it is going to be the brand's first performance-oriented model in the Indian market. Now, we have learnt that Hyundai i20N will be launched in three variants namely N6 iMT, N8 iMT and N8 DCT in September 2021 in India. Needless to say, it will not have any direct rival in the domestic market while it will be locally produced at the Chennai facility.
As per the document accessed by our friends at Team-BHP, Hyundai i20 N will be offered in three range-topping variants with iMT and DCT gearbox options. The iMT unit will be available with N6 and N8 trims while the DCT will only be offered with N8 grade. The N6 trim level will be based on the Sportz variant of the regular hatchback. As for the N8 derivative, it will be developed on the lines of top-end Asta and Asta (O) trims. Hyundai i20 N Line will get 'N' badging in the cabin with red stitching as standard. In addition, the high-performance version of the hatchback will also come loaded with sporty front seats, bespoke steering wheel and leather gear knob with N branding.
The N Line will be powered by a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which will rake in top power of 118 bhp and peak torque of 172 Nm. This engine will be mated to a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT gearbox. Though the aforementioned engine-gearbox combination seems familiar as we have seen it with the range-topping variants of the standard i20, Hyundai has made certain updates in the suspension setup, braking system and exhaust note. However, one major missing here for the buyers could be the absence of a manual transmission.
Hyundai i20 N Line will be the flagship trim in hatchback's range. The current range-topping variant Asta (O) 1.0L Turbo DCT is priced at Rs 11.40 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). So expect the N Line to be premium by at least Rs 1-1.50 Lakh and come at a price point of around Rs 13 Lakhs.
