Hyundai Creta is the best-selling SUV in August 2020

The month of August saw a majority of the automakers reporting healthy sales growth. As for the SUV segment is concerned, then it has also emerged as a major contributor to the overall car sales in India. Among all the popular SUVs, 2020 Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are the only SUVs in India that have been at the top of the list since their launch. 

With the launch of the 2020 Creta, Hyundai has witnessed a huge sales surge for the SUV. It has been the South Korean automaker’s best selling model. Also, it is regarded as the topmost gainer among the other SUVs sold last month. The SUV registered a whopping sales growth of 96 percent on a YoY basis in August 2020. The new entrant Kia Motors is not too far behind. The company has also reported flashing numbers. It has recorded a gradual increase of 71 percent in the sales number on a YoY basis in August this year.

Hyundai launched the new Creta in March this year, a few days before the nationwide lockdown due to the COVID’19 was announced. Hyundai Creta topped the list of best selling SUVs in the month of August. The company sold 11,758 units of Creta in August this year in comparison to August 2019. Talking about last year, the company managed to sell only 6,001 units of Creta in the month of August. This is the fourth month in a row that Creta has been regarded as the best selling SUV in the Indian market. This second-generation model has helped the company to register nearly 20 percent volume growth. Furthermore, it was the sole model of the automaker to cross the 11,000 unit sales milestone last month.

Apart from Hyundai Car India, Kia Seltos is another product that has been mentioned in the list of top SUVs sold in August 2020 in India. Currently, Kia Motors is selling the Seltos and Carnival in the Indian market. The company’s third offering Sonet SUV is all set to be launched in this month itself. Kia Motors sold 10,655 units of Seltos in August 2020 in comparison to 6236 units sold in August 2019. Seltos has been one of the biggest launches in the Indian market in 2019. The SUV has been claimed to be the fastest car to cross the one lakh unit sales milestone. The company sold 1,09,634 units of Seltos in the last 13 months. Previously, the record was held by Hyundai Creta, which shares the same platform as the Seltos. However, Hyundai Creta took 15 months to cross this 1 lakh milestone. As for Kia Seltos, the SUV sold an average of 8,000 plus units every month in the last 13 months.
