Hyundai India is rolling out 1000 cars a day from its Chennai production facility.

Hyundai India has ramped up the production at its Chennai manufacturing unit in the country. Presently, the company is rolling out more than 1000 cars per day from its plant in Tamil Nadu. The surge in the production is due to the overwhelming demand for three of the company's products - Creta, Venue and Verna. The South-Korean automaker had registered cumulative sales of 12,583 units in the month of May 2020 while the delivery of nearly 6900+ vehicles took place after the company resumed operations 22 days back.

Hyundai India spokesperson confirmed all these developments while also adding that the company has recorded more than 15,000 enquiries at its 'Click to Buy' digital sales platform. The company had initially resumed production with just 200 cars a day but the growing demand for Creta, Venue and Verna has forced it to hike the production five fold. The Chennai plant was working in double shifts with around 7500-8000 employees which included the official factory staff too. There are close to 2250 permanent while the remaining ones comprise of official staff, contract workers and technicians. For those asking, during the pre-lockdown phase, Hyundai had 15,000 employees at the plant in March.

The company is hopeful of sales gaining momentum in coming days as it has opened over 1032 dealerships and 1169 service stations across India after getting due permission from respective state governments. Hyundai India spokesperson also revealed that it has already retailed 100+ cars via the 'Click to Buy' digital platform and still there are several enquiries pending. The 2020 Hyundai Creta BS6, launched a couple of months back in March, has already registered 26,000 bookings and the company believes that sales will further improve as buyers will give preference to personal mobility over shared mobility due to COVID-19. In fact, the used car segment is also expected to see a huge bump in numbers.
