The second-gen Amaze will get the same 1.5-litre diesel engine mated to a CVT, but the City won't.

The second-gen Amaze was shown with a unique diesel-CVT engine-gearbox combination at the
recent Auto Expo. The 1.5-iDTEC engine, which is quite fuel efficient, combined to a CVT, is expected
to deliver big on fuel economy. But, the current-gen City will not be available with a CVT gearbox
even though it also uses the same 1.5-litre diesel engine.

Honda says the investment required to engineer the CVT into the car would not be justified by the
volumes sold, especially since the car is a fair amount into its life cycle. The next-gen City is due in
2020, and that car could be available with a CVT for the diesel engine.

The company is working onadding CVT gearboxes to more models in the future. Honda is already working on a BS-VI emission
norms-compliant version of the 1.5 i-DTEC engine.
