Honda Cars India has silently discontinued the BR-V crossover in the country. Being originally launched in May 2016, Honda BR-V came as a 7-seater vehicle with several premium elements. It is also sold in several other Asian markets as well like Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines. Though, one of the major reasons of BR-V being phased out from the Indian market remains to be its striking resemblance with the Mobilio MPV which was not liked much either by the auto enthusiasts in the Indian market.
Being based on the similar architecture as the Mobilio, Honda BR-V had missed out on several necessary features at its launch. Though, the Japanese automaker was quick to realise this and hence introduced a mid-cycle facelift of the crossover with all the essential features in the Indian market. But still, the BR-V didn't make much of the impact among the buyers which is evident from the fact that the company could only retail 20,000 units in FY2017. The sales performance slid even lower to 11,563 units in FY2018. In fact, 2019 was possibly the worst year for the crossover as it could only sell 5,213 units in the whole year. And, the writing on the wall came in FY2020 till end-January this year as merely 1959 units of the crossover were sold.
Now with the departure of BR-V, Honda's current product portfolio comprises of six models in India: CR-V, Civic, Amaze, WR-V, Jazz and City. Though the crossover has been performing decently in the global markets and hence, the company even launched the facelifted version of the crossover in these markets. But as for the Indian market, it has different plans as it is all set to launch the new-gen City sedan and WR-V facelift. In addition, Honda has also started teasing the new Jazz which is also due for a launch soon.
