Royal Enfield seems to have created a stir in the market with its pricing strategy for Interceptor and Continental GT. First it was TVS Motors and BMW Motorrad and now US motorcycle giant Harley Davidson has been forced to offer discount on its products to compete with the 650 twins. The latest news is that the American retro motorcycle maker's New Delhi dealer has started offering up to Rs 1 lakh discount on Harley Davidson Street 750. Although the offer is currently limited to the national capital region, it won’t be surprising if more dealers across the country come out with similar offers. After discount, the Harley Davidson Street 750 gets a price tag of Rs. 4.33 lakhs in Delhi.

It appears that the high-end motorcycle dealers in Delhi are stuck with unsold inventory. Just last week, the Triumph dealer for the National Capital Region announced massive discounts on a range of motorcycles to clear inventory. Triumph motorcycles such as Street Twin, Scrambler, Street Triple, and Bonneville are now being offered for discounts of 55 percent on ex-showroom price. Besides, the dealer made the deal sweater by offering 100 percent on-road financing at a 0 % rate of interest to the buyers. All this suggest that the slowing economy is badly hurting the sales of high-end motorcycles and it is a great time for buyers.

Coming to Street 750, the cruiser is the entry-level model of the company and is built in India at the Harley factory in Bawal. Local production means that the company as well as dealers get massive profit margins and this perhaps is the reason why unsold motorcycles are being sold at such large discounts.

The motorcycle comes with a 750-cc, V-Twin engine that gets liquid cooling, fuel-injection, ABS, and a distinct exhaust note. The 750cc motor produces 47 Bhp power and 59 Nm torque. The engine is mated to a manual gearbox and the motorcycle weighs 223 kg.

If the entry-level Harleys are too pricey for you, the Royal Enfield 650 twins are great alternatives. While the Interceptor 650 gets a price tag of Rs. 2.37 lakhs in Delhi, the Continental GT 650 starts from Rs. 2.49 lakhs. Both motorcycles come with a 647-cc, parallel twin four-stroke engines with fuel injection, air-oil cooling, and 4-valve heads. The engine has been tuned to produce 47 Bhp power and 52 Nm torque and is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox with slipper clutches.  These motorcycles get dual channel ABS and the same cycle parts.
