The new 2.2-litre diesel engine, suspension and tech upgrades will be available on the top-spec variant.

The company is readying a new top-spec variant of the Gurkha, called the Xtreme. The Xtreme will get a much-needed power bump, and the aged 85hp, 2.6-litre diesel engine will make way for a Mercedes-Benz OM611-derived 2.2-litre diesel unit that puts out 140hp and 321Nm, essentially the same motor that did duty in the Force One SUV.

There will be a new gearbox too – a Mercedes-Benz G32 five-speed manual. The car comes with a low-range transfer case but doesn’t get a shift-on-the-fly system. The suspension will be upgraded too, and it will bring with it major improvements in approach, departure and ramp breakover angles.

The Gurkha Xtreme will most probably go on sale later this month and a few dealers have begun accepting bookings.
