India is one of the fastest-growing automobile markets in the world with the presence of global brands an illustration of the same. Now, almost every car global launch is followed by its arrival in the domestic market. With the rise in purchasing power, brands are looking to expand their footprint in the Indian market. An example of the growing importance of India in the automobile brands vision is the rising trend of EV launches. It is not just a novelty but becoming a necessity as the Indian buyer is moving towards a sustainable form of commutation. Recently, Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways & MSME spoke on the need to create an ecosystem to facilitate large-scale adoption of EV's in the country. According to him, the Indian government is planning to set-up one charging kiosk at 69,000 plus petrol stations across the country. In 2020, 3 electric cars were launched namely Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV and Mercedes-Benz EQC. We introduce all of them to you right here!


Tata Nexon EV 



The best-selling EV in the country with over 2,000 units sold so far since its launch in January 2020. The subcompact electric SUV price starts from Rs 13.99 lakhs with the top-end trim retailing at Rs 16.25 lakhs (ex-showroom), India. Tata Nexon EV is powered by a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The SUV churns out 129 bhp of maximum power output and 245 Nm of peak torque. If you compare the EV with its ICE powered sibling, the power and torque figures are almost the same. Transmission duties are taken care of by an automatic gearbox. Further, the fully electric SUV has two driving modes namely Drive and Sport. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 9.9 seconds. The manufacturer claims that the Nexon EV provides a range of 312 kms on a single full charge. Its battery takes 8.5 hours to charge from 10 percent to 90 percent using a regular 15A socket. If the customer opts to use a fast charger, then it will take just 1 hour for the battery to recharge from 0 percent to 80 percent.


MG ZS EV



Another SUV to be introduced into the EV segment is the name of MG ZS EV. Its current price starts from Rs 20.88 lakh (ex-showroom), India. The EV sales recently crossed 1,000 mark in the country indicating rise in the demand for such kind of vehicles. It comes packed with 60 plus Connected Car Features. The electric SUV is powered by a 3-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor. ZS EV belts out 141 bhp of power output and 353 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duty is taken care of by an automatic gearbox. It is available in 3 colours - Ferris White, Currant Red and Copenhagen Blue. The vehicle offers three driving modes namely Eco, Sports, and Normal. 


Mercedes Benz EQC



In October earlier this year, Mercedes Benz EQC was launched having a starting price of Rs 99.30 lakhs (ex-showroom). The luxury EV houses a powerful 80KWH lithium-ion battery under the hood. The battery unit powers two asynchronous motors with one placed on each axle. The EQC delivers a massive 408 bhp of power output with 765 Nm of peak torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.1 seconds as its top speed is electronically limited to 180 kmph. The German luxury automaker claims that the EQC offers a range of 400 kms on a single full charge. It takes 10 hours for the battery to get fully charged if one uses the regular AC wall box charger. In case one opts for the DC fast charger, then the vehicle will take just one and a half hours for the battery to recharge from 0 to 100 percent. The battery comes with a warranty of 8 years.
