Datsun Go & Go Plus To Become Cheapest CVT Automatic Cars in India

Datsun Go To Get CVT Transmission

Datsun will launch CVT automatic options on the Go hatchback and Go Plus stationwagon, on the 24th of September 2019. The Datsun Go and Go Plus CVT automatics will be India’s least priced CVT cars. The engine and gearbox will be borrowed from the Nissan Micra, which already offers a CVT option, and is currently India’s least priced CVT gearbox equipped car. Prices of the Nissan Micra CVT start from Rs. 6.62 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi.

The Datsun Go CVT is likely to command a price tag of Rs. 5.5 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi, and the CVT option is likely to be offered on the mid A trim of the car. As for the Datsun Go Plus, the 7-seater car’s CVT variant is expected to be priced at Rs. 6 lakhs. Recently, Datsun updated both the Go and Go Plus with new interiors, refreshed exteriors and additional features including ABS, Airbags and vehicle stability control.

The Datsun Go and Go Plus are based on the Nissan Micra’s V platform, which has been heavily localized to bring down costs. The cars are built at the Renault-Nissan joint manufacturing facility at Oragadam, Chennai. The cars are among the cheapest ones sold by Nissan in the Indian market through the Datsun low cost brand. The Go and Go Plus are also exported, and sold in many other emerging markets.

While the Go seats 5 adults, the Go Plus is technically a 7-seater. The last row of seats is fit only for small sized adults or kids. Most owners of the Datsun Go Plus choose to fold down the final row of seats, liberating extra luggage space. Both cars use the 1.2 liter, 3-cylinder petrol engine borrowed from the Micra, but in a lower 67 Bhp-104 Nm state of tune. Currently, they’re offered with 5 speed manual gearboxes as standard.

Both cars are aimed at first time buyers seeking an affordable price tag, reliability and good fuel efficiency. Although the Go and Go Plus are both larger than direct competition from the likes of the Renault Kwid and Maruti Alto K10, both cars have not really been hot sellers. The Go Plus has fared slightly better in the cab market due to the additional space on offer. A lot of cabbies have converted the car to run on CNG through aftermarket kits as there’s no diesel engine on offer in either cars. The CVT automatic variant will be aimed at personal car buyers seeking comfort and convenience at affordable prices.
