Citroen C3 Sporty could also be introduced in an all-electric avatar in the country.

Citroen had announced its entry in the Indian market last year with at least three new models to begin with. The company has already stated that it will launch the C5 Aircross SUV as its first product in India. However, according to a new media report, it has been revealed that Groupe PSA owned French automaker has also started work on its second product for the Indian market, which happens to be a sub 4-meter SUV. Being touted as Citroen C3 Sporty, it could also be introduced in an all-electric avatar in the country.

Citroen, under its C-Cube program, will develop new vehicles every year till 2023 and the C3 Sporty is considered to be a product under the same initiative. Moreover, cars and SUVs developed under the C-Cube program will be developed and manufactured in India. These products will be firstly launched in the Indian market and then exported to various other countries. Underpinning the modular CMP architecture, Citroen C3 Sporty (codenamed as C21) will adorn the company's funky design philosophy with headlamps placed lower on the front bumper in signature Citroen styling. The small SUV might also feature a triple-tone exterior. The cabin will boast of several first-in-segment tech and connectivity features.

Under the bonnet, the Sporty C3 SUV will have a BS6 compliant 1.2L 3-cylinder Puretech petrol engine which will be linked to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain and transmission might be imported. There is word that the French automaker is also contemplating introduction of a fully electric variant of the SUV. Citroen C3 Sport Electric will get maximum power output of 134bhp and peak torque performance of 260Nm from a 50 kWh battery. It will have a driving range of 330 kms on a single charge. The report states that Citroen might offer a smaller battery of 37 kWh in the base variants with a driving range of 230 kms. The first Citroen product, the C5 AirCross SUV, which was originally slated to launch this year itself, has been pushed back to Q1 2021 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
