Maruti Suzuki Ciaz best-selling car in segment for third consecutive year.

India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited has added another feather to its cap as its C-segment sedan Ciaz has for the third time in a row bagged the title of the best-selling C-Segment sedan of the year. Maruti Ciaz sold a total of 46,000 units between March 2018 and March 2019. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz locks horns with the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Toyota Yaris in the segment.

The prices for Maruti Suzuki Ciaz begin from Rs. 8.2 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi and go all the way to Rs. 13.4 lakhs for the top model. Notably, Maruti Suzuki offers Ciaz in petrol-mild hybrid, diesel mild-hybrid and diesel engine options in India. The reason for the continuous success is the lower entry level price of the Ciaz, not to mention that such a huge price band also offers something for every customer. Although other rivals such as Honda City and Hyundai Verna offer powerful engines and more features, the Ciaz scores points on the pricing aspect as the other rivals are more expensive when compared to the Ciaz.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited’s senior executive director for sales and marketing, R.S Kalsi spoke on the occasion of Ciaz being the best-selling car in the segment for the third continuous year and said,

Ciaz has witnessed a resounding success in the highly competitive premium sedan segment. With a staggering 30%  market share in 2018-19, Ciaz has been a preferred choice for the aspirational and evolving consumers who have a  drive to excel. It is a testimony of them liking new technologies and features offered by us and we are thankful to  our customers for their confidence and choice that reinforces our commitment to bring newer, advanced and greener technologies in India.

Just last month, Maruti Suzuki launched the new 1.5 liter DDiS 225 diesel engine developed in-house by the brand. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has become the first car to come equipped with the same engine as the brand has launched the new version of Ciaz sedan with the new 1.5-liter diesel engine. Ciaz 1.5-litre diesel is available in three variants – Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The new in-house diesel engine that the Ciaz comes with is a 4-cylinder unit rated to deliver 94 Bhp @ 4,000 rpm and 225 Nm between the range of 1,500 and 2,500 rpm.

With the new diesel engine updated Ciaz sedan closes the gap with rivals such as Hyundai Verna and Honda City as far as performance is concerned, a point that discouraged many customers from choosing the car. The new 1.5 liter diesel engine from Maruti Suzuki has a new turbocharger unit and a dual mass flywheel. With the new turbocharger unit the engine now delivers greater lower end torque and the aforementioned dual mass flywheel brings down the NVH levels of the engine.

A point where the customers will take a slight hit is mileage. With the more powerful engine, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz 1.5’s mileage goes down from 28.01 Kmpl to 26.82 Kmpl and the mild-hybrid setup that is offered on the 1.3-liter diesel engine, is not offered on the newer 1.5 liter diesel engine of the Ciaz. Although, with greater power on offer, this should be an acceptable compromise.
