While General Motors stopped sales in the Indian market a couple of years back, the American car maker received rave reviews for its Volt plug-in hybrid car. With both journalists and customers giving the Volt a big thumbs-up, the plug-in hybrid sedan was expected to be a blockbuster in the era of rising fuel prices. However, the Volt hasn't managed to sell in as good numbers and GM has now discontinued it.
The first generation model was unveiled in 2010 while the second generation made its debut in 2016. The latest Chevrolet Volt could do up to 85 kms on battery power alone and was assisted by a 1.5-litre petrol engine when the battery would deplete. The company discontinued the right-hand drive version of the Volt due to low sales in 2015, not bringing the second generation model with RHD.
With customers now preferring SUVs over sedans, the Chevrolet Volt's sales haven't been doing great and the Corvette marker has decided to discontinue the model. With under 20,000 units sold in the car's 8 year production lifecycle, GM now plans to focus on the Bolt EV which can go considerably more on a single electric charge, 383 kms!
