Volkswagen India has launched BS 6 compliant Polo and Vento in India. Volkswagen Polo BS6 price starts at Rs 5.82 Lakhs while Volkswagen Vento BS6 price begins from Rs 8.86 Lakhs (Both prices are Ex. Showroom, India). Both the hatchback and sedan will get a 1.0-litre petrol engine which complies with the stricter BS6 emission regulations and replaces the 1.2-litre and 1.6-litre petrol engines that powered the older versions. The company is now equipping Polo with 1.0L MPI and TSI motors while the Vento will only draw power from the 1.0L TSI engine.
The Volkswagen Polo Trendline, Comfortline and Highline Plus variants will be coming with the 1.0 litre, 3 cylinder MPI naturally aspirated engine. The engine will be coupled to a new 6-speed manual gearbox. The MPI (Multi-Point Injections) engine has a better fuel economy and lower emissions compared to a single point or carbureted engine. The cost of Polo 1.0 MPI has increased by about Rs 4,000 while the base Polo BS6 price is the same as the BS4 model.
On the other hand, the 1.0L TSI petrol engine will produce 108 bhp of maximum power and 175 Nm of peak torque. It will be linked to a 6-speed manual transmission and only available in the Highline Plus and GT Line variants of Polo. One interesting point to note is that the new Polo GT TSI is about Rs 17,000 cheaper than the outgoing top-spec Polo GT. The outgoing Polo GT carried the 1.2L TSI engine and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic unit. Another big news is that the new 6-speed torque convertor auto transmission replaces the 7-speed DSG on the Polo.
The BS6 Volkswagen Vento gets equipped with a single 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine. The 6-speed manual gearbox is available as standard, but the 6-speed automatic is offered only on the higher variants Highline and Highline Plus. If we compare the prices of Vento BS6 in regards to BS4 Vento, the BS6 compliant Vento prices start Rs 10,000 higher. The top BS 6 automatic Vento variants are priced Rs 12,000 more than outgoing BS4 counterparts.
