BS6 Tata Hexa XMA 4x4

News Highlights

  • BS6 compliant Tata Hexa spotted testing near the manufacturers production facility in Pune.
  • The Hexa spied here features a 4X4 badge indicating that this could be the XMA variant.
  • The older BS4 Tata Hexa came with a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine in two tunes of power.

Tata Motors discontinued the Hexa MUV in the Indian market in March this year. Since then, the Hexa did not receive a BS6 update due to the implementation of stricter Emission Norms. Now we have come across some spy shots courtesy to our friends at Team-BHP of a new Tata Hexa variant.

The vehicle seen in this picture seems to be the BS6 compliant Tata Hexa which was spotted testing near the Indian automakers production facility in Pune. Launched back in 2016, the MUV is expected to arrive in the country in 2021. Previously, Tata Hexa BS4 was priced from Rs 12.69 lakhs (ex-showroom, India) so expect the BS6 model to be retailed at a premium of Rs 40,000 - Rs 50,000.

Tata Hexa Spied Test

The Hexa MUV spied here featured a 4x4 badge indicating that this could be the XMA variant. Further the 4x4 badging on the front left fender and XMA badge towards the rear placed on the tailgate explained the story. Besides these two features on the exterior, BS6 Hexa looks quite similar to the discontinued BS4 model. One can easily spot the twin exhausts, chrome trims along the window line and tail lamp clusters. The top-end Hexa models are equipped with dual-tone alloys but the testing mule was riding on steel wheels.

Tata Hexa

At the Auto Expo 2020 in February, the Indian automaker had revealed a Safari Edition of the Hexa. Around the same time, Tata Motors stated that the Hexa will be reintroduced in a BS6 avatar soon. The Hexa Safari came with new updates like black finished bumpers, beige colour seat upholstery, safari badge on the dashboard, a new Harman 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit offering JBL 10 speaker sound system. The system catered to Android Auto while features like smart remote, park assist, emergency assist could also be found on board. We expect some of these elements to be provided in the upcoming variant.

Tata Hexa Autoxpo

As for the powertrain, the older BS4 Hexa came equipped with a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine in two different states of tunes. The base variant housed the ‘Varicor 320' churning out 148 bhp of maximum power output and 320 Nm of peak torque. The transmission duties here were taken care by a 5-speed manual unit. Its higher variant was powered by a Varicor 420 engine, that delivered 154 bhp of power and 400 Nm of peak torque. The engine came coupled to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic torque converter depending upon the variant selected. The top-end XT Trim was offered with a four-wheel-drive system. Tata Hexa competes against the likes of Mahindra XUV500, the MG Hector Plus, and the Toyota Innova Crysta in its segment.
