BS6 Jawa, Jawa 42 Deliveries to Start; Features New Exhaust System

The BS6 Jawa and Jawa 42 have already arrived at selected dealerships across India. The price and features of the motorcycle were already revealed earlier this year. The deliveries of these two-wheelers got delayed due to Coronavirus lockdown. Now with the government easing restrictions, deliveries of these two motorcycles will begin soon. Recently, Jawa has given a major design change to the bikes. A YouTuber named Enjoyker Sumit has uploaded a video of the new BS6 Jawa 42 at a dealership. The video shows us the change that has been made to the motorcycle. 

According to the video, the overall design of the bikes remains the same except for one major change. Which is that the design of the silencer has been enhanced. The motorcycle retains the dual silencer system but the exhaust system finished in chrome has been replaced. In order to comply with the BS6 Emission Norms, this major change has been done. The new exhaust system on Jawa 42 as seen in the video is a dual silencer unit. It gets a small catalytic converter chamber at the beginning of each of the pipes for better treatment of exhaust gas. The addition of new components has increased the overall length of the exhaust system. In order to deal with this, the pipes of Jawa 42 will now cross underneath the motorcycle. In other words, the left pipe passes down the engine and emerges on the right side and vice-versa. 

The earlier exhaust system setup gave the motorcycle a retro look, connecting the modern day Jawa to the classic Jawa from the 1950s. This new design change has also increased the chances of scrapping the silencer pipe while riding. The BS6 models have become heavier and less powerful as compared to their BS4 counterparts. The rest of the design remains the same. The motorcycle also retains the color options. 

Under the frame, the BS6 Jawa and Jawa 42 are powered by a 293-cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine that churns out 26.5 bhp power and 27 Nm torque. The mill comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. In the BS4 format, the engine produced 27 bhp power with 28 Nm torque. 

The prices of both the models have already been revealed in March this year. The BS6 Jawa is more premium of the two when it comes to the price. It will be offered in the price range of Rs 1.73 lakh - Rs 1.82 lakh (ex-showroom). The model will be offered in three color options namely Black, Grey, and Maroon. While the BS6 Jawa 42 costs between Rs 1.60 lakh - Rs 1.69 lakh (ex-showroom). It is provided in six color paint schemes - Haley’s Teal, Comet Red, Galactic Green, Nebula Blue, Lumos Lime, and Starlight Blue.
