All BS6 vehicles are set to get their own identity. BS6 emission standards came into force from April 1, 2020. But there are a few models that got updated last year itself to meet the BS6 emission standards. The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) recently announced that a one cm green sticker is mandatory on all BS6 compliant vehicles. This order will come into force from October 1, 2020. The sticker will provide the registration details of the respective vehicles. This is being done to differentiate between the vehicles strictly adhering to BS6 norms and the vehicles still conforming to older emission standards.
The Government of India has now made it mandatory that the third registration plate on all BS6 vehicles will be fitted with a green strip. In 2018, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways had issued an amendment in the Circular Motor Vehicle Rules of 1989 that stated that High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) is mandatory for all vehicles sold on or after April 1, 2019, in the country. The HSRP or the third registration number plate is basically fitted on the inside of the windshield of the newly manufactured vehicles by the manufacturers. This chromium-based hologram sticker bears the vehicle registration number and two, 10-digit laser-branded permanent identification numbers (PINs). The vehicle chassis and engine numbers are also present on it to ensure easy identification in case of tamper or vehicle theft.
Apart from this, the third number plate will have color coding for the fuel used in the vehicle. The color-coding is done to differentiate between the polluting vehicles and the non-polluting ones. The petrol and bi-fuel cars, such as the one running on both petrol and CNG get affixed with a light-blue background third registration sticker while the diesel vehicles get an orange sticker after the registration. The green color sticker will be placed on top of the existing third registration sticker.
