BS-IV RE Himalayan bookings open.

The Himalayan FI (Fuel Injection) is currently in the process of garnering approvals from various governmental agencies and the bike maker has begun accepting bookings for the bike with deliveries expected to start by mid-August this year. According to sources, since the Himalayan was built around the brand-new LS410 engine platform, switching it to run on BS-IV fuel and to meet norms was a more elaborate process for this bike as compared to their Other Motorcycles.

The bikes based on its UCE platform, which is most of its portfolio, apart from the Himalayan, the switch was a lot less complex. The company first focused on getting the UCE platform up to BS-IV standards, since they make up the bulk of the company’s sales. The Himalayan's engine specifications stay the same, with the 411cc single-cylinder, oil-and-air-cooled unit putting out the same 24.5hp at 6,500rpm and a peak torque of 32Nm at 4,250rpm. The bike will continue to use the same five-speed gearbox as well. The engine might be more refined though.

There’s no official word on pricing just yet, but expect a slight bump - it attracts a slightly higher tax (31 percent) thanks to the new GST structure.
