BMW India has launched the M340i xDrive variant of the 3-Series in the country. It is priced at Rs 62.90 Lakhs (ex-showroom). It further becomes the first high-performance BMW with an M engine to be locally produced at the company’s plant in Chennai. The sedan will be available in limited units in India.

In terms of design, BMW M340i xDrive gets an aggressive front-end. It features a large BMW kidney grille upfront. In addition, it also gets adaptive LED headlights with BMW laser light. Design bits like the gunmetal grey accents on the grille, bumper & the wing mirrors, and trapezoidal exhaust surrounds make the new M340i xDrive look different from the standard 3 series range. The rear end boasts of L-shaped LED tail-lights and a body-coloured M spoiler on the boot lid. Furthermore, the sedan rides on 18-inch M light-alloy wheels. A set of 19-inch M light-alloy wheels are also available as an option.

Moving inside the cabin of the first-ever M340i xDrive, it gets black part-Alcantara upholstery with embellishments in the signature M color. It also gets an ‘Aluminium Tetragon’ trim finish on the dashboard. The digital instrument cluster and front door sills get the ‘M340i’ lettering. Feature highlights include a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, automatic triple-zone climate control, M leather steering wheel with shift paddles and M seat belt among many others. There is this Welcome light carpet that projects from the side sills. The sedan also offers a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, 3D Navigation, BMW Gesture Control, BMW Virtual Assistant, and a Harman Kardon Surround Sound system with 16 loudspeakers. The safety kit comprises of six airbags, ABS with brake assist, Dynamic Stability Control that further includes dynamic traction control, electric parking brake with auto hold, electronic vehicle immobilizer & crash sensors, cornering brake control, and ISOFIX child seat mounting.

The new BMW M340i xDrive is offered in three color options - Sunset Orange, Dravit Grey Metallic, and Tanzanite Blue. Since it is a CDK unit, one cannot make any customization when it comes to the exterior, interior or color options as it is done with CBU-imported M models. However, consumers can make a choice between three accessory packages at the dealer level - Enthusiast Pack, Racer’s Pack, and Motorsport Pack.

Performance-wise, the M340i xDrive gets a 3.0-litre, in-line, six-cylinder petrol engine. The motor produces 385 bhp top power and 500 Nm peak torque while mated to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic gearbox. The new M340i xDrive is further enhanced by the M Sport rear differential, M-specific chassis tuning, and M Sport brakes.
