The sedan segment as a whole has taken a big hit in sales due to the increasing popularity of SUVs across different price brackets. However, it does not stop manufacturers from pushing the boundaries in the sedan segment. Check out the Top 10 2020 sedans in India.

Maruti Dzire Facelift

The Maruti Dzire Facelift in the compact sedan category gets a premium appeal in its fresh avatar. Priced between Rs 5.89 lakhs - Rs 8.80 lakhs (ex-showroom) Delhi, it is powered by a new BS6-compliant, K-Series, Dual Jet, Dual VVT, 1.2-litre petrol engine that churns out 90 bhp power and 113 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed AGS. Available in four variants namely LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+, it gets Electronic Stability Program with Hill Hold Assist. It also caters to a spacious cabin with wooded accents on the dash and doors along with other features.

Honda Amaze

The 2020 Honda Amaze looks far more premium than its predecessor. Priced in the range of Rs 5.93 lakhs to Rs 9.79 lakhs (ex-showroom) New Delhi, it is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that delivers two different power outputs depending upon the transmission selected. The 5-speed manual gearbox for instance delivers 99 bhp and 200 Nm of peak torque while the CVT produces 80 bhp power with 160 Nm torque. On the otherhand, the Amaze's 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine churns out 89 bhp of power output with 110 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox along with CVT  as an option. The exterior design of the new Honda Amaze give it an aggressive and bold look. The interiors are focused more towards the comfort of users. The safety features that it offers include ABS with EBD, rear parking camera, standard ISOFIX and dual front airbags.

Ford Aspire 

The Ford Aspire is the perfect combination of power, style and latest technology. It comes with two different BS6 compliant engines: a 1.2-litre Ti-VCT petrol engine that belts out 95 bhp power and 119 Nm torque, and a 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine that produces 99 bhp of power output with 215 Nm of peak torque. It is priced between Rs 5,99,000 - Rs 8,34,000 (Ex-Showroom). The Ford Aspire is aimed to give the additional practicality of a sedan in a compact package, with no compromise on driving fun. Available in four variants namely Ambiente, Trend, Titanium, and Titanium+, it offers features that include a gear-shift indicator, dual airbags, seat-belt reminder, rear parking sensors, ABS+EBD, high-speed alert and many more. 

Honda City

Next Generation Honda City is due for launch but due to the Coronavirus epidemic, the introduction of this sedan has been differed for the time being. Looking at the current model which is BS4 compliant, the sedan is priced from Rs 9.91 lakhs - Rs 14.31 lakhs (Ex-Showroom). It is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 117 bhp power and 145 Nm torque mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox along with CVT as an option. Whereas as the 1.5-litre diesel engine delivers 99 bhp of power output with 200 Nm torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The classic Honda City gets an aggressive look with a premium touch. It offers a grand cabin space with ample legroom along with an ergonomically designed cockpit. 

 
Hyundai Verna 

The Hyundai Verna is priced in the range of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 12.88 lakh (ex-showroom). It is powered by a 1.6 litre Dual VTVT petrol engine that produces 123 bhp power and 151 Nm torque. While the diesel is a 1.6 litre U2 CRDi VGT engine that churns out 128 bhp power and 260 Nm torque. Both these engines are mated to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions. The elegant exterior design and the premium interior gives the Verna a sophisticated feel. Hyundai is all set to launch India’s first fully-connected “the new spirited Verna”  powered by three  BS6 compliant engines in 2020. It will also come equipped with advanced BlueLink connectivity features

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is a premium sedan from Nexa. A perfect combination of premium looks, latest technology and luxury, it is priced in the range of Rs 8.31 lakh - Rs 10.08 lakhs (Ex-Showroom). Powering the Ciaz in its BS6 avatar is a 1.5-litre petrol engine which comes with Suzuki's smart hybrid tech. Maruti Suzuki also launched the sports variant of the sedan called Ciaz S. The Ciaz S comes with signature dual-tone sporty exteriors with black accentuations on the sides. To further enhance the sports quotient of the premium mid-size sedan, its all-new sophisticated black interiors are adorned with silver accents on door trim and instrument panel. 

Toyota Yaris 

The Toyota Yaris is the Japanese brand’s first C-segment sedan in India. It offers a lot of first-in-segment features. The Toyota Yaris is priced between Rs 8.76 lakhs - Rs 14.18 lakhs(Ex-Showroom). The new model Yaris combines the nimble handling characteristic of a compact car with high-quality ride comfort and the latest safety technologies. It is the first model to adopt the TNGA*3 platform (GA-B) for sedan cars and features a lightweight and highly rigid body with a low centre of gravity. The Yaris is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that delivers 106 bhp of power with 140 Nm torque. Transmission duties are carried out by a 6-speed manual transmission as standard while a 7-speed CVT is also in the offering as an option. The cabin offers lots of space and the overall looks are in line with Toyota’s global design language.

Skoda Rapid

The Skoda Rapid is one of the most rock solid sedans available in the market as of today. It incorporates the brand’s trademark design language. With a starting priced of Rs 8,81,916 (Ex-Showroom), the Skoda Rapid is powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. In addition to that, there is a 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine which offers a 5-speed manual transmission alongside an automatic 7-speed DSG gearbox. It features the new Skoda signature grille with chrome finish. The cabin boasts of dual-tone ebony sand interiors. In 2020, Skoda is expected to upgrade the sedan to meet the BS6 emission norms.  The new Skoda Rapid will be available with a BS6 compliant petrol engine along with minor cosmetic upgrades. It is expected to be priced between Rs 9 lakh to Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom) India.

Skoda Octavia 

A strong and chiselled aesthetic makes the Skoda Octavia a sight to behold. Priced in the range of Rs 15.49 lakhs - Rs 22.90 lakhs (ex-showroom). It is powered by a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine mated to a 6-speed manual, a 1.8-litre petrol engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission and a 2.0 TDI diesel engine available with a 6-speed manual and an automatic 6-speed DSG gearbox. With the commencement of BS6 norms, Skoda will discontinue its third-gen Octavia. The fourth-generation model is expected to be launched in the mid-2020. It’s underpinned by the MQB platform and will be larger than the existing model despite having a similar wheelbase. 

Hyundai Aura

Hyundai launched the successor of Xcent, Aura earlier this year. The compact sedan comes packed with first-in-segment features. Available in five variants namely E, S, SX, SX+ & SX(O), the Hyundai sedan is priced between Rs 5.79 lakhs - Rs 9.23 lakhs (ex-showroom). The all-new Hyundai Aura is offered with three BS6-compliant engine options: a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 83 bhp power and 114 Nm torque and 1.2-litre diesel engine that belts out 75 bhp power and 190 Nm torque borrowed from Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. There is also a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 100 bhp power and 172 Nm torque taken from the Hyundai Venue. While both the 1.2-litre petrol and diesel motors are offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT, the Turbo-Petrol unit comes only with a 5-speed manual transmission. The 1.2-litre petrol engine is also available with a factory fitted CNG kit. Cosmetically, the compact sedan is highly inspired by its smaller sibling Grand i10 Nios. The BS6 compliant Aura is built with 65 per cent (AHSS & HSS) high strength steel with features like Rear Parking Sensors, Headlamp Escort Function, Anti-lock Braking System, Driver, and Passenger Airbags, Reverse Parking Camera among others.
