Bajaj Auto updates its famed entry-level affordable performance bike Pulsar 180 for Indian markets.

Bajaj Auto has updated its famed entry-level affordable performance bike Pulsar 180. The Pulsar 180 locks horns with TVS Apache RTR 180 and has been a major seller for the brand in the segment. The major change that has been made to the updated model of Bajaj Pulsar 180 is that is has been given the half-fairing treatment. The half-fairing was initially only offered with just the more expensive Pulsar 220 model. With this update, the new Pulsar 180 will now look at lot like its elder sibling Pulsar 220.

The new update should please the customers as they can now get maximum bang for their buck by buying a bigger looking bike at the price of regular Pulsar 180. The name of the bike has also been changed and the updated model has been given a suffix and is now called Pulsar 180F. The Indian bike maker has revealed that the prices for new Pulsar 180F will be Rs. 86,500, ex-showroom Mumbai. This makes the bike more expensive than the older version, a price bump of Rs. 2,500 to be precise. Although the customers will not mind the hike due to the major boost the bike’s look now gets. The brand has not made it clear whether it will continue selling the non-faired version of Pulsar 180 as well.

As far as the mechanicals of the bike are concerned, they have not been changed and remain the same as the previous model. The new update is solely aimed at the aesthetics of the bike and adds some cosmetic stickers to the new model. The Pulsar 180 still comes powered by a 180cc single cylinder air-oil cooled engine rated to deliver 17 Bhp and 14 Nm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The braking duties are handled by disc brakes on front and rear wheels, and the company will soon add ABS to the bike as the upcoming safety norms mandate so. The addition of ABS will push the price of bike even further.

Bajaj has faced a lot of success with the Pulsar series of bikes in India; the bikes have achieved a legendary status in the Indian market as they brought affordable performance to youth of the country. The Pulsar series provides a major source of revenue to the brand and the sales number for the range averages at 60,000+ units monthly. Bajaj also has a lower-powered version of Pulsar 150 and this bike is the brand’s highest selling premium commuter bike.

Bajaj offers a lot of options in the entire Pulsar model range and has something to offer to every segment of customers. The Pulsar has an extensive model portfolio in India that starts at the low-powered 150 and goes all the way to fully faired 200 RS. Keep in mind that until last year Bajaj also offered an even affordable Pulsar 135 LS in the Indian market. However, the Pulsar range is getting long in the tooth and the Indian bike maker will soon update the entire model range of its Pulsar line-up. This model update will comply with the upcoming emission norms and will bring major changes to the bestseller models by Bajaj.
