Ather Energy plans to spread its presence across 40 cities by the end of 2021

The electric scooter maker, Ather Energy, is in the process to expand its presence in the country. According to the company’s earlier plans, it aims to spread its presence across 40 cities by the end of 2021. Besides these, the company is also opening up experience centers in 25 cities along with 500 charging points by the end of this year.

The electric scooter maker has two products in the domestic market - Ather 450X and Ather 450 Plus. Both the electric scooters were manufactured at a plant in Whitefield in Bengaluru. Now the company has shifted it to the new plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Ather Energy has signed an MoU with the Government of Tamil Nadu for a 4 lakh sq ft facility wherein it will produce the Ather 450 and lithium-ion batteries. In order to celebrate this eve, a pooja was conducted at the plant with all the team members. We could also see the lineup of the Ather 450X and 450 Plus scooters.

This collaboration has happened at such a time when both the State and Central governments are working hard for the adoption of electric vehicles with the benefits of updated FAME policies, low GST, and electric vehicle loans. Talking about Tamil Nadu’s EV policy, it includes a 100 percent exemption of electricity tax on the EV industry until December 31, 2025, along with stamp duty exemption for land procured for such plants.

Besides shifting to a new plant at Hosur, the EV maker is also expanding its Grid Charging Network. At present, the company has 39 charging stations in Bengaluru and 14 in Chennai. Furthermore, they have plans to increase this count to 6,500 by 2023 across 30 cities in the country. Basically, they want to have one charging station every 4 kms in the cities where it sells its models.
