Distracted driving

Nissan Great Britain has adopted tech that's almost 200 years old to create a concept solution to stop smartphones from distracting drivers.

The Nissan Signal Shield is a prototype compartment that’s within the centre armrest that is lined with a Faraday cage, an invention dating back to the 1830s. When you place a phone inside and shut the lid, there’s a ‘silent zone’ that blocks all of the phone's incoming and outgoing cellular, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections. Drivers now have the choice to eliminate the distraction of their phone constantly beeping because of constant messages, social media notifications and app alerts.

If drivers want to listen to music or podcasts stored on your phone, you can connect to the car's entertainment system via USB ports or an aux cable that are built into the compartment.
