Maruti Suzuki has registered monthly sales of 51,274 units in June 2020. The company has witnessed a drop in sales by 54 percent as compared to the same month last year when it sold around 1.11 Lakh vehicles in the domestic market. However, if we compare the June monthly sales with May, then Maruti Suzuki has seen a surge of 270 percent as it could only manage to retail 13,865 units back then. For those asking, Maruti Suzuki along with all the automakers in the Indian market had recorded zero sales in April 2020.

"The sales performance during June 2020 and Q1 FY 20-21 should be seen in the context of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, lockdowns and restrictions required for safety. The company remains committed to the health, safety and well-being of all members across the value chain. Production across plants is being progressively increased consistent with maximum efforts to ensure safety and subject to the availability of employees," said Maruti Suzuki in an official statement. The home-grown automaker exported 4289 units in June 2020 while it supplied 838 units to Toyota India. The driving force behind the June 2020 sales were Maruti Alto and Maruti S-Presso as both of them had a combined sales of 10000+ units.

As for Q2 (April-June) 2020 sales, Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 64,976 vehicles against 3,63,417 during Q2 2019, thereby seeing a de-growth of 82 percent in the domestic sales. Maruti Ciaz, surprisingly, had a dismal outing as the company could only sell 745 units of the sedan in the three months of Q2, out of which 553 units were sold in the month of June. For those asking, Maruti Suzuki had retailed 8703 units of the Ciaz in Q2 2019 and 2322 units in June 2019, respectively. The country's biggest automaker resumed operations at its manufacturing units at Manesar and Gurgaon on May 12 and May 18, respectively. The Suzuki facility in Gujarat which develops Toyota Glanza, Maruti Baleno and Maruti Swift, restarted operations from May 25.
