All-New Toyota Corolla Cross is based on the same TNGA platform as the next-gen Corolla sedan.

Toyota has started work on an all-new C-segment SUV for the various global markets which was recently spotted as a test mule for the first time. Being codenamed as 740B, it could be called Toyota Corolla Cross. Based on the same TNGA platform that also underpins the next-gen Corolla sedan, it could also be considered for the Indian market as Toyota has already discontinued the sedan model in the country. It could be a potential rival for the likes of Jeep Compass and MG Hector in India while priced around Rs 20 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).

Internationally, Toyota Corolla Cross will be positioned between Yaris Cross and RAV4 in the company's portfolio. Recently, it was rendered to provide a fair amount of vision regarding its appearance. Going by the rendered image, the front fascia looks identical to the new-gen Corolla sedan as it flaunts the same J-shaped bi-beam LED headlamps and a broader honeycomb front grille finished in mesh black. Besides these, the SUV will also boast of LED DRLs, black-colored bumper and body-coloured ORVMs. The side profile is borrowed from Toyota RAV4 SUV with black cladding near the wheel arches and roof rails. The rear end gets a bumper in black finish and exhaust pipes, which too have been sourced from the RAV4 SUV.

Inside the cabin, it is expected to have several bits sourced from the other latest Toyota models such as the next-gen Corolla sedan and RAV4 SUV. However, we don't have the cabin images yet to confirm this development. Under the hood, Toyota Corolla Cross will have a couple of powertrain choices: 1.8L petrol and 2.0L flex fuel. Both these engines are already doing duties to the international-spec Corolla sedan. We await more details regarding the transmission options from Toyota. The all-new SUV is expected to debut sometime by 2020 end or early 2021. One can expect it to debut in the Indian market by the mid of 2021 as Toyota is currently readying the Vitara Brezza based Urban Cruiser SUV for India.
